He didn't really fall in the pecking order because of that. As I recall
he had his heart set on a move and was then frozen out. The window
closed, the move didn't happen and he got back in the team.

Maradona has said that about many players, starting with Tevez besides
Di Maria is a winger.

I don't think that's correct. Maybe I am projecting from personal
experience, but in 2004 during the Olympics, I definitely thought of
Tevez (and not Messi) as the Argentinean player reminding me of
Maradona.

He means that a winger is less likely to be compared to Maradona.

How good this guy is remains the question. I don't know if you
remember, by the way, that Arsenal was linked heavily to this guy in
the summer of 2007.
