Quite true. This is the most misused term in the English language.
Besides, there weren't that many Germans on the field. And you can't
say anything about the manager either.

When you lose to a goal like that you have to give someone some
credit.

I think the term is an ethnic slur. One can be bigoted against people
of a different race. That is assuming that you subscribe to the
concept of race.
