This quote sums up the feeling of the US and soccer: "Americans love a
winner. Americans will not tolerate a loser."
If the US national team didn't tank it so often maybe Americans would
care more.

There's a huge element of truth to this. You have to get more of them
to pay attention in the first place, though.
