The probability that they were doped to the gills kind of shoots down
their underdog aura for me.

Ah yes, but Benny isn't factoring in inflation.
To him, 15m is less than 30m. Which of course it is.
I paid 250k for a house in 1992. I couldn't get the same house for
less than a mill nowadays.

And as for the salaries AC paid.......

AC basically bought anyone who was considered semi decent, even if
they had to spend most of their time on the bench.

I thought Benny was against buying players and favoured the home grown
approach.
I can't speak for some of the lesser lights, but I do know that
Gullit, Van B, Savicevic, Papin, Boban and virtually every name
mentioned here were born and raised hundreds (if not thousands) of
miles from Milan and played for other clubs before securing lucrative
moves to AC.

Completely arbitrary rise to power due to money (from dubious sources
legally) from an outside force with no association with the club. Roman
could have decided to buy West Ham or Spurs; my reaction would have been
the same.

Add to that:
An obnoxious manager in Mourinho
An obnoxious squad of players including thugs like Ballack, Drogba,
Terry, Carvalho and other unlikeable players like Ashley Cole, Anelka,
Robben, etc.
A style of play that does not do justice to the amount of money they
have spent on players
Constant whining about everything; ugly incidents with refs.

As I said, there is lots to dislike. I don't support any of the three
other clubs you mention , but I would rather see any of them win instead
of Chelsea.

Luther Blissett, Joey Jordan and Mark Hately say hello.

Plus all the expensive flops (and there have been quite a few in the
striking department) suggest the scouting was not so hot after all.

That's right but other players were signed for a pittance i.e. Van
Basten, Rijkaard, Desailly, Savicevic and Boban which you have of course
continently left out and the Papin and Lentini signings were made after
a Milan side built for pennies had established itself as the best in the
World. The transfer record was broken three times in 1992, 10 million
Papin to Milan, 12 million for Vialli to Juventus then 13 million for
Lentini to Milan. Lentini never lived upto expectations and Papin was a
flop. The successful Milan sides of that era were not expensively built.
I imagine that Barca side that were whalloped in the 1994 European Cup
final cost a lot more to build than that Milan side.

> Even Chelsea cant hold a candle to that, it smells more like Real

It's nothing like Real Madrid. Real Madrid spend heavily year in year
out and had no rivals in monetary terms domestically. Milan made record
signings three times in five years the last of which was the Lentini
transfer way back in 1992. Inter, Juve and Lazio broke the record in the
early part of last decade before Real Madrid took over.

Excuse me? How many Ballon D'or winners has Wenger developed? None.
There isn't a single player, not even Henry, who can hold a candle to
Van Basten or Savicevic or Shevchenko (at his peak) or Kaka'. In terms
of centre backs Wenger has a SHOCKING record and he's equally suspect in
his development of goalkeepers.
