I didn't realize they were hated that much (other than by Bayern's
rivals in Germany)

What about Chelsea post 2003 ? There is lots to dislike.

I think some other sentimental favourites (though perhaps not for
everybody) would be:

Borussia Mnchengladbach of the 70s

Cameroon 1990

N. Ireland 1982

Belgium 1986

N. Korea 1966

Ipswich late 70s early 80s

Myth. Milan did not buy their way to titles in the 1980s and 1990s.
Gullit was a World record transfer, for 6 million, back in 1987. Milan
paid Ajax 1.5 million for Van Basten, they paid even less to sign
Rijkaard from Sporting. The back four were already there. Donadoni and
Ancelotti may have been low seven figure signings. Sacchi's built a
relatively inexpensive side. Under Capello Milan started stockpiling
talent but even then Papin aside they did so paying largely modest fees.

Far from being a Chelski Milan are an example for every major club.
Gullit, Van Basten, Rijkaard, Desailly, Savicevic, Boban, Gattuso, Kaka'
all under 10 million. Shevchenko 15 million, Thiago Silva 10 million,
Pato 15 million. Sure there have been some expensive flops (Oliveira,
Gilardino) but overall not even Wenger can boast a better record in the
transfer market. Milan's scouting is second to none.

Unless you support Arsenal, Liverpool or Manchester United why on Earth
would ANYONE who follows the EPL have a problem with Chelsea?

I dont know much about Milan from that era but a quick peak at the
history of transfer records shows that they broke the world transfer
record three times from '87 to 92', including twice in '92 itself!
Gullit 6m 1987
Papin 10m 1992
Lentini 13m 1992

Even Chelsea cant hold a candle to that, it smells more like Real
Madrid of the '00s.

And please dont insult Wenger by comparing Milan's spending habits to
his, he is unparalleled when it come to bargain hunting and developing
players.

“Buying success” and “no history” are the criticisms I’ve seen.

Funny thing is most fans of the EPL wish their club’d be bought by
some rich investors for an injection of cash. On LFC boards, fans
gasp with excitement everytime one of those rich barosn from the
Middle East are rumored to be on the verge of buying out Hicks &
Gillet.

Also funny thing is for a long time the Mancs spent money that no one
else in England could match.
