It's not Liverpool-centric (#4 deserves to be here), and shows a good temporal distribution across the decade. Not necessarily outranking these, but also big: -Abramovich purchase of Chelsea making them instant world power -Italy "drawing" their way to a World Cup championship -Unprecedented internationalization of rosters

But I couldn't think of any events outside the continent that should make the list, probably due to my own ignorance. But for the sake of another status check: Asia - Nothing notable, apart from Australia joining the AFC. Just the usual suspects qualifying for the WC and making little noise. Africa - The Egypt-Algeria craziness could be considered, but mostly for non-footballing reasons. Africa hosting the WC is huge, and 2010 is technically still this decade, but in most people's perceptions (and in general acceptance) the decade ended yesterday. North America - Nothing really, just US, Mexico, and some banana republics. Oh and Canada. So nothing really. (sorry MH :-)) South America - Cant think of anything, but I'm sure our South American contingent will disagree. > > Not necessarily outranking these, but also big: > > -Abramovich purchase of Chelsea making them instant world power Yes, that is notable. A giant was born out of nothing. > > -Italy "drawing" their way to a World Cup championship Happened before (1994), no biggie IMO. > > -Unprecedented internationalization of rosters- That will change in Europe once the new rule takes effect.
