I'm not sure if you included this because they won three in a row or
because the Championship switched to a league format.

Is it safe to assume that this has elevated Veron to deity-like status
among the Estudiantes faithful?

Which makes the Perugia feat all the more impressive. Winning the title
undefeated is a pretty rare occurrence in the top leagues. But going
undefeated and *not* winning the title must surely be unique!

No. Atlético Mineiro and Botafogo managed to do it in the same year!
In 1977, Botafogo went unbeaten for 18 matches (11W, 7D) but crashed
out of the third stage of the Brazilian League, for an overall 5th
place. Atlético went all the way to the final (17W, 4D!!!), but lost
on PKs!

Tchau!
